These terms are the agreement between you and Convenux for using the Convenux app, convenux.com and db.convenux.com. By creating an account or using Convenux you agree to them. Please read the community rules especially: breaking them can cost you your account.
Who can use Convenux
You must be at least 13. In the EU, the EEA and the UK you must be at least 16 to create an account, or the lower age your country sets for agreeing to this yourself. If you are under 18, you need your parent’s or guardian’s permission. You may not use Convenux if we have banned you before.
Your account
You sign in with Apple, Google, Facebook or Discord, and the same Convenux account works in the app and on db.convenux.com. Keep the account you sign in with secure: what happens under your Convenux account is your responsibility. Use a name people can know you by, one account per person, and do not pretend to be someone else. You can download your data or delete your account at any time in the app (You → Privacy), or without the app by following these steps.
Community rules
Convenux has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You must not post, send or organise anything that:
- is sexual or sexually suggestive, or shows nudity;
- involves or sexualises anyone under 18 in any way;
- is violent, gory, threatening, or encourages harm to yourself or others;
- harasses, bullies, mocks, shames or stalks a person, including through photos of them;
- attacks people for who they are, such as their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality or disability;
- shows someone who has not agreed to be posted, in a way they would object to;
- is spam, a scam, advertising, or misleading about a convention, a meetup or yourself;
- infringes anyone’s copyright, trademark or other rights, or breaks the law.
Cosplay is not consent. Ask before you post or share a photo of someone else. Meetups must be at a real place and time, open to the people they say they are for.
Your photos and posts
You keep every right you have in the photos, captions, comments and meetups you post. You give Convenux a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, resize and display them in Convenux (in the convention’s gallery, on your profile, in the feeds of people who follow you or attend that convention, and on the convenux.com page a shared link to them opens, with its link preview) for as long as they stay posted. The licence ends when you delete the post or your account, except for copies a moderator needs to keep to handle a report that was open at the time. You must have the right to share everything you post.
When you share something from the app, the picture it makes is made on your phone and carries a link back to Convenux. Only your own photos go on those pictures; somebody else’s post is shared as a link.
What you add to the database
Corrections, additions and flags you send to db.convenux.com are reviewed before they change a listing. Only add what you know to be true, and say where it is published. Facts belong to no one; for anything else in what you send, you give Convenux a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free and permanent licence to use, edit and publish it, and to share it with other apps and websites through the Convenux API under the licences the API uses. What you added stays in the database after you delete your account, without your name.
Reporting, blocking and moderation
- Every photo, meetup and profile can be reported from its menu, and a comment by pressing and holding it. We review every report, and every photo held back for review, within 72 hours.
- If a photo shows you, report it and choose That’s me — take it down. It is hidden from everyone at once, before anyone reviews it.
- Anyone can report something on Convenux they believe is illegal, or a photo of themselves, without an account: email hello@convenux.com with a link to it (or the convention and a description), why you are reporting it, your name and email address, and that you believe what you wrote is accurate and complete. You may leave out your name when you report child sexual abuse. We confirm we received it and tell you what we decided; the same 72 hours apply.
- You can block anyone. Blocking is mutual and silent: neither of you sees the other’s posts, comments or meetups.
- What is automatic. Photos can be checked by software before they are published: a photo it is sure shows nudity, sexual content or violence is deleted instead of posted, and one it is unsure about waits for a person. Photos from new accounts can also wait for a person. A photo, comment or meetup that three different people report is hidden until a moderator reviews it. Every other decision, including every removal after a report and every ban, is made by a person.
- We may hide or remove anything that breaks these terms or the law, and suspend or ban the account that posted it, without warning where we have to act quickly. A banned account can no longer post, comment, like or host, but can still read, download its data and delete itself.
- When we hide or remove something you posted, or restrict your account, we tell you in the app what we did and why. If you think we got it wrong, email us and a person will look at it again. You can also take any decision to court.
Meetups
Meetups are organised by people who use Convenux, not by us, and we do not check hosts or the people who join. Meet in public places, tell a friend where you are going, and report anything that feels wrong. If you are under 18, ask your parent or guardian before you go, and do not go alone. You take part at your own risk, and a host can cancel at any time.
Convention information and tickets
Dates, venues, guests, schedules, prices and ticket sales come from organisers’ own websites, social media and newsletters, and from people who use the database, and are checked as often as we can manage. A ticket marked sold out, or a sale announced for a certain time, is what the organiser had published when we last looked. All of it can be wrong or out of date, so check with the organiser before you book travel or buy a ticket. Guest photos and short descriptions come from Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, with each photo credited under its licence; if one shows the wrong person, tell us and we take it down.
Convenux is not affiliated with the conventions it lists unless it says so. We do not sell tickets: you buy them from the organiser, on the organiser’s terms. Convention names and logos belong to their owners.
The service
Convenux is free to use. We keep improving it, which means features can change or be removed, and we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. Reminders and notifications are a help, not a guarantee: they can arrive late or not at all, so do not rely on them alone for a sale or a session you cannot miss.
You may not misuse Convenux: no scraping outside the published API, no attempts to break in, overload it or get around a block or a ban. What the API serves you, you may use on the licence it is served with: some sources must be credited, and share-alike data comes under CC BY-SA.
Liability
We provide Convenux as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for what other people post or do, for losses caused by information that turns out to be wrong, or for events that happen at conventions or meetups. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
The App Store and Google Play
These terms are between you and Convenux, not Apple or Google, and Apple and Google are not responsible for the app or its content, or for supporting it. If you downloaded the app from the App Store, Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement also applies, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them.
Ending
You can stop using Convenux and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, and we tell you why. If we ever close Convenux, we will tell you in the app at least 30 days before, so you can download your data first.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect. If you keep using Convenux after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, you can delete your account.
Law
Dutch law applies to these terms. If you live in another country, you keep any protection its consumer law gives you, including any right to take a dispute to a court where you live.
